Sawan Shiv Aarti. Sawan is also known as Shravan. It is very important in the Hindu calendar. Especially for Lord Shiva devotees. Sawan is supposed to begin when the Sun enters the zodiac sign of Leo.
According to Vedic astrology, Sawan falls in the fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar. Generally it occurs between July and August on the Gregorian calendar. During this sacred month, the cosmos is considered to be imbued with Lord Shiva’s components which promotes cleansing of the mind, body and soul.

Sawan Shiv Aarti 2023’s First Somwar: Puja Muhurat
Sawan’s first Somwar Vrat (Monday fast) begins on July 10. This year is significant because Shrawan will be extended for two months for the first time in 19 years. This is owing to Adhik Shrawan Maas.
The Sawan initial Somwar puja is performed between 05:30 and 07:14 in the morning. Furthermore the hours between 8:58 and 10:42 are said to be favorable for performing the ceremonies.

During the first Sawan Somwar, devotees perform special rituals to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings. The following is a step-by-step method for doing the puja:
- Visit a Lord Shiva temple and conduct Jalabhishek which is a gift of sacred water to the Shiv Ling.
- Take a cleansing bath first thing in the morning and worship Lord Shiva’s image. Continue saying the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ throughout the day.
- Offerings: Make Belpatra, Doob, Kusha, Lotus, Neelkamal, Jawaphool Kaner and Rye Flowers to Lord Shiva.
- Chant the Mahamrutunjaya mantra which is devoted to Lord Shiva. Recite it 108 times.
- Rudrabhishek: To please Lord Shiva, perform the rudrabhishek ritual by giving milk, curd, ghee, honey and Gangajal.
- Prohibited Items: Alcohol consumption is definitely prohibited at this sacred period.
- Shiv Chalisa and Shiva Aarti: To appease Lord Shiva and seek his blessings recite the Shiv Chalisa and Shiva Aarti.
Goddess Sati put up her mortal form when her father insulted Lord Shiva. In her second life as Devi Parvati, the daughter of Himalaya and Naina, she fasted intensely throughout the month of Sawan in order to gain Lord Shiva’s approval and marry him.
Devotees practise sixteen Monday fasts beginning in the month of Sawan to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings.
